excl_mark.png Hello and Welcome to my homepage. Thank you for taking the time to look at my website.

This is my third term as a city councillor. I stand in the Fendalton-Waimairi Ward area.

As a councillor I report to you the residents. Being accountable to you and not to any political party, I concentrate on the issues and make decisions that will benefit Christchurch now and in the future. I always welcome hearing your views. You can ring me at home on 358-8217 or on my mobile 021-058-0392 or email me at: sally.buck@xtra.co.nz.

My Top 5 Priorities

Rates Rates are out of control in Christchurch and in many parts of NZ. Many people in my electorate have huge rates bills because house values have gone up so much in the last few years. However incomes have not kept pace. Furthermore the average rate rise is not an average any more – it is the percentage increase that a property valued at about $270,000 would expect to pay and this is not an average property price any more. I disagree with the level of rate rises forecast in the ten year plan and I voted to keep the rates down.

Water Pollution The biggest threat to our drinking water supply is from nitrates and other contaminants getting into our aquifers. The Christchurch water supply has to be protected for future generations. I voted against Central Plains Water being able to borrow money from dairy corporates to fund the resource consents.

Reducing Waste And Recycling I have always voted for an improved recycling and organics collection as I believe that this is the only way that we will reduce our waste that goes to landfill. We now have to wait until the contracts come up for renewal before we have another opportunity to change.

Sustainability & The Environment I think strategically and look at the long term impacts of the decisions that I make. I have been elected into council to ensure that Christchurch is a good place to live in, not just in 20 years time but in 200 years time. I believe that Councillors are keepers of the long term view and should act accordingly when they vote. This is what sustainability is all about - making sure that one generation doesn't use up all the resources, and working to ensure that the earth is no worse, and preferably better for the next generation. A Safer And Cleaner City People need to feel safe at all times and in all places in Christchurch including the central city especially at night. We need to ensure that pedestrians, cyclists and people with disabilities can safely move around the city. I have been very involved in getting the 40km outside schools and in pedestrian crossing points. It is also important to me that the city is clean and our garden image is maintained.
